Celebrating the 75th Anniversary of the Windrush supported by Newham Council
FEATURE FILM: BARREL CHILDREN
The story of the Windrush generation came into sharp focus following the failing of the UK government to protect and honour those who answered the call to the mother country in the 1940s and 1950s to help rebuild post-war Britain.
However, what is still less well-known is that of those left behind: The children of the Windrush generation who for years only knew of the parents through the ‘barrel’ care packages they would send from Britain. Barrel Children tells the tales of the Caribbean children who grew up away from their parents before migrating to join them in Britain, and the stories of reconciliation and rediscovery within a new and unfamiliar world.
