NOLLY-OH! TOUR (LONDON): ONYEKA IGWE’S SHORT FILM

  • The Nunnery Gallery 181 Bow Road London, England, E3 2SJ United Kingdom (map)

HOSTED IN COLLABORATION WITH BOW ARTS, AND PART OF OUR NOLLY-OH! TOUR, The New Black Film Collective presents:

------------------------

SHORT FILM - THE NAMES HAVE BEEN CHANGED, INCLUDING MY OWN AND TRUTHS HAVE BEEN ALTERED

Onyeka Igwe’s Programme 2 presents her award-winning film the names have been changed, including my own and truths have been altered (2019), in which Igwe explores the story of her grandfather, the story of ‘the land’ and the story of an encounter with Nigeria from a single point in time, in a single place. The film throws the ordinary and the everyday within the archive into relief by daring to write and re-write the stories of diasporic African life against the grain of colonial history’s master narratives.

Showing in the Nunnery’s cinema-screen set-up alongside 24 other artists’ works the show will interrogate themes of memory, narrative, identity and the archive.

Visions in the Nunnery Programme 2 is curated by Jarman Prize winning Onyeka Igwe, artist and selector Tessa Garland, and Bow Arts.
