Black Burns Fast (2025) is a coming of age comedy based in post-apartheid South Africa. Drawing inspiration from early 2000’s cartoons, the film follows Luthando played by Esihle Ndleleni, a student who develops a crush on the new girl, that leads her on an overwhelming journey to seek stability within her sexuality, friendships and future goals. This refreshing take on queer love is a beacon of hope for more positive queer stories from Africa that focus on joy in the future.
