Avril Evans
Avril Evans is a multi award-winning TV writer and director known for her bold, unflinching storytelling. Recently named a Broadcast Hotshot for 2024/25, she completed the inaugural BBC/Bad Wolf/Sony/Disney+ directing initiative facilitated by Directors UK, cementing her status as a rising force in television.
Seizing a career-defining opportunity, Avril directed an episode of the BBC One/PBS flagship drama Call The Midwife. She also helmed the Christmas block of Channel 4/Lime Pictures’ Hollyoaks. Her work earned her a New Voice Award nomination at Edinburgh TV Festival for Best Debut Director – Scripted.
Avril is an alumna of prestigious labs including: She Writes, Modern Tales, Edinburgh TV Festival’s Ones to Watch, Berlin Talent Campus, and Edinburgh International Film Festival’s Talent Lab. She has written and directed acclaimed short films commissioned by The Arts Council/Barbican and EastEnders: E20. Her work has been screened at the London and Berlinale International Film Festivals, including Playground (supported by Film London) and Famous Last Words (funded by ZDF/Arte).
Avril Evans currently serves as a Directors UK Board Member.
