In 1957 the Barking Advertiser had a huge headline asking “Can you imagine Barking without a cinema?”. That’s been the reality since the late 1990s when the Odeon opposite the station closed its doors. In this talk, cinema historian Nigel Smith will take you back in time to explore five of Barking’s former lost cinemas from fleapits to grand picture palaces.
