IRON LADIES

A group of women recollect the steps into leadership and activism they had to take, to fight against low pay, pit closures and Margaret Thatcher’s assault on the mines.

Iron Ladies, Daniel Draper

Iron Ladies (2025) recounts strikes from the 1970s through to the 1984/85 Miners’ Strike, showing how women were the backbone of their families and communities. Faced with pit closures, low or no pay and Margaret Thatcher’s assault on the miners, they rose to challenge the social norms of stay-at-home mothers and housewives, stepping into activism and leadership. Director, Daniel Draper brings their voices forward, elucidating a resistance still tangible today.
