The Eyes of Ghana (2025) is a moving documentary about Kwame Nkrumah and the project of building the nation’s identity through film. At the heart of the film is Chris Hesse – a now 93 year old man with glaucoma and a sharp memory. As Nkrumah’s personal photographer, Hesse followed him across the world, capturing his message of African independence and unity. The film begins an intergenerational conversation around the importance of restoring and preserving these intimate archival films of the birth of Ghana.
